What happened

Gunmen barricaded the Itobe-Achigili-Anyigba highway in Ofu LGA, Kogi State, in two attacks about two hours apart on Sunday, intercepting a Peace Mass Transit Hummer bus at around 4pm and a Sharon bus and a Sienna at around 6pm, and marching all occupants into surrounding bush. The number of abducted passengers was not established; security forces and local vigilantes were deployed to search for the victims.

How the numbers were verified

Number abducted unspecified (article says it may only be known from passenger manifests), so reported_abducted left null. Sourcing is entirely unnamed local sources; Kogi police spokesperson had not yet confirmed at time of publication. Date inferred as Sunday 9 August 2026 from publication date of 10 August 2026. Abducted left blank rather than set to 13: no source carries 13, and the original reporting establishes no figure. The later rescue reports attached here do not agree with each other — Vanguard and Punch put the number freed at 15, while Premium Times, TheCable and two further Punch pieces put it at 16 — and it is not established that those rescue operations correspond to this pair of ambushes rather than to separate Ofu-corridor incidents. Blank means not established, not zero. Killed held at 1 and injured at 1, each carried consistently by multiple Tier 1 outlets; injured claims range 1 to 2, so the lower well-supported figure is used. Case status left unknown because the rescue reporting cannot be tied to this entry with confidence.
