What happened

On 25 July 2026, armed bandits raided the official residence of the Bungudu Local Government chairman, Nura Abdullahi, in Bungudu town, Zamfara State, killing four security personnel (a police inspector, a constable and two vigilantes) and abducting the chairman along with two other residents. The chairman's elder brother, Bello Abdullahi, who was shot during the raid, died of his injuries on 3 August 2026, raising the reported death toll to five; the abductees remained in captivity at the time of the report.

How the numbers were verified

Killed figure of 5 is cumulative (4 security personnel plus the brother). Abducted figure of 3 comes from the article's background section. Death confirmed by a media aide to the local federal lawmaker, not by police.
